This is the most common question we are asked here at
Petzone. We have a protocol to follow so NO
we can not take in strays; that falls under the jurisdiction of Animal control and we are not the humane society.
We have very limited space and funding at our
facility. To fulfill our mission statement our dogs MUST come primarily
from Animal Control facilities; this is the only way we can change
statistics thus fulfilling our mission statement. Our dogs have to be
quarantined for 14 days, temperament tested and screened, as well all
their medical needs addressed before entering our program. Our goal is
to reduce the euthanasia rate; not house
stray dogs. The only way to ensure our dogs meet the
standards we have set is to follow protocol. If you have a dog you are trying to place, email a picture and bio to petzonedogs@gmail.com and if we have the volunteer's to help, we MIGHT be able to post a courtesy listing. If you find a stray these
are the steps you should take:
So many dogs are just not found or placed in a new
home due to lack of diligence about advertising the dog.
If you have found a dog and all
efforts have been exhausted and you cannot keep the dog.
What is the adoption process at Petzone? Fill out an online application here or come up to Petzone and meet the dogs then fill out an application in person. After we process your application we will contact you.
How long does it take to adopt a pet?
We strive to process applications fast
and usually have a 24-72 hour turnaround time but we do rely on
volunteers so please be patient.
If your application is pre-approved you may place a deposit thru paypal to ensure you have a chance to come visit the dog you’re interested in. In state applicants can place a deposit of 1/2, out of state applicants must pay in full to hold a dog. Keep in mind if the hold is longer than 3 days, we will charge a rate of $10/day for boarding.
How many references do adopters need?
We like to have 4 personal and 1 vet reference.
What is the adoption fee? The adoption fee varies dog to dog, $150 and up.
It is very expensive to spay/neuter, vaccinate, deworm, microchip, heart worm test and treat, train, feed, care for, groom, clean up their quarters, and house these dogs. If they have a specific medical condition, injury or disease the cost can be overwhelming. We require an adoption fee to help cover some of the costs associated with getting each dog ready for adoption, and in most case’s the adoption fee does not cover a portion of what their medical costs actually total. Average cost to have a dog ready for adoption is $250-$1200 depending on their medical needs, and amount of time at Petzone.
I've just adopted a dog from Petzone. Will you follow up to see how it's going?
We love when our adopters sign our guestbook once their new babies settle into their new homes. Most of our adopters keep in close contact with us to let us know how their new dog has enriched their lives.
Is it a good idea to give a pet as a gift?
NO! We have voucher’s if you would like to give the voucher to the recipient and we will be happy to have them visit and pick out a dog they is right for them. Dogs are a big, long term responsibility not to be taken lightly.
Please donate, volunteer, or utilize our services to help homeless dogs!
